Employee Health And Fitness Day

Today is National Employee Health And Fitness Day. We celebrate this day every year on the third Wednesday of the month. It’s a day to remember to encourage physical activities in the work place. It was created by the National Association for Health & Fitness and ACTIVE Life. The goal is to promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle to employers and their employees through worksite health promotion activities and environments. Promoting a healthy lifestyle is a great way to help your employees to be healthier. It is proven that they will be more productive at their job. According to the Center for Disease Control healthier employees are more productive. They are less likely to call in sick – so you have a greater percentage of employees at work every day. They are also more likely to prepare more home cooked meals and participate in more physical activities with their families. Which can mean that they spend less time at home caring for sick family members. Besides loss of productivity, unhealthy employees can also cause your health care plans to be more expensive. How you can encourage healthier lifestyles for your employees: Have exercise equipment available in the workplace. Provide treadmills and exercise balls. Since this week is Occupational Safety and Health Week in North America, it a great time to think of ways we can assure the safety of your employees. Occupational Safety & Health Week is always the first week of May in Canada, United States, and Mexico. The event was created to raise awareness about occupational safety, health, and the environment to help prevent work injuries and illnesses. The ASSE uses the week to better educate the public about the positive benefits that a safe workplace provides not only for workers, but for their families, friends, businesses, their local communities and the global community.
