How’s your grammar these days? As we get away from the classroom and into the real world, sometimes we pick up some bad habits. Among my pet peeves are misuse of “than/then,” “I/me” (so many people misuse I these days), and “affect/effect.” These — and several more — are included on this helpful infographic developed by the University of Phoenix. Take a moment to check yourself against the chart. Do you have a grip on these typical areas for grammar goofs?
Speaking and writing well can help you make a good impression on customers, bosses, and others in your world of work. Take time to brush up on grammar and vocabulary. Here are my favorite books to help you out:
- Word Power Made Easy — my 10th grade English teacher, Gordon Higgins, made our class use this book. It is excellent. I highly recommend it!
- Eats, Shoots & Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation — this is just a fun read that can really help you understand grammar and punctuation.
