I believe the idea of leaders as servants is better than the idea of leaders and employees as partners. I have
always believed that the goal of the leader is to serve their employees through providing opportunities, experiences, growth, and development. In his article Practicing Servant-Leadership, Larry C. Spears (2004) states, “True leadership emerges from those whose primary motivation is a deep desire to help others” (p. 8). This is the type of leader I have strived to be in my roles as a people manager. I relished the times when my team members excelled or were promoted.
